About Our Department:

 

The Department of Economics is the first department of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, which started its academic activities in the 1993-94 academic year as the fourth faculty of Akdeniz University. The Department of Economics has been playing a leading role in the development of the faculty with its qualified academic staff, economics undergraduate program, international level master's programs (Economics with thesis, Economics without thesis, and Food Economics and Management with thesis) and Economics doctoral program, research projects (completed many research projects supported by EU Framework Programs, TÜBİTAK, University Research Fund, Private Sector, International Organizations), international academic publications and international scientific cooperation.

 

About the Department:

 

The mission of the department is to teach students at an international level through undergraduate and graduate programs, to prepare them for post-university working life, and to increase their research ability. In the undergraduate program, where a wide range of compulsory and elective courses are offered in accordance with the EU Bologna Process, it is aimed to equip students with the knowledge and necessary skills for economics and to provide them with the ability to analyze economic situations of the country and the world. The main objective of the Department of Economics is to educate economists who follow the economic, social, cultural, and environmental developments in the world, who have social skills, who have learned at least one foreign language, who have knowledge and skills in economics, who can use technology and tools of economic analysis, and who have a high ability to synthesize economic developments and who can be employed in any country. Besides theoretical education, the department strives to educate students, who are aware of societal and economic problems of the country, question, analyze, and feel the responsibility of "I should do something for my country" through social and cultural activities. The academic language in the Department of Economics is Turkish. Students can study at universities in EU countries within the scope of the Erasmus program and/or do internships in any private or public institution during their four-year education. Furthermore, the entrepreneurship skills of the students are supported during their education at the university with activities such as Career Days, Entrepreneurship Week, etc. Fields that our graduates can work are ministries, regulatory agencies such as the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency and Capital Markets Board of Turkey, state economic enterprises, banks, universities, private sector organizations, professional organizations (Associations of Chambers of Tradesmen and Craftsmen, Trade Unions, Chambers of Industry and Commerce, Stock Exchanges and Brokerage Houses, etc.) and international organizations as experts and inspectors, middle and senior managers and researchers.
